I try to connect to a local MySQL database on my Windows 64-bit machine and I get the error:

“Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Data source name not found and no default driver specified”.

Make sure that you installed MySQL Connector 32-bit, not 64-bit.

Re-download MySQL Connector 32-bit and re-install it.

Then do this:

click Start -> Run and execute this command

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
